Thank so much for visiting our website and welcome! If you feel that the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is the breed for you, please feel free to contact us if you any questions you have which are not answered in our FAQ on our site.

We are located in Acme, Alberta (45 minutes NE of Calgary) on a little piece of Heaven we like to call Mountain Dog Meadows. While we are the longest time breeder in Canada, we have a small number of dogs and breed only when we are ready to keep another. We currently are owned by Copeley's Alberta Roots HIC, CGC, DD (Hannah), Can / Am CH. Alberta Roots Amazing Grace (Gracie) TT, HCT, CGC, MBPIS Can / Am CH. Alberta Roots Blessed nda West (Wyatt) CGC, BPIG CH. Snowy Mtn C's Alberta Roots (Ocean) and CrCr HugsN Kisses 2 AltaRoots (XO). Hannah, Gracie and Ocean passed health clearances on their shoulders, patella's, thyroid, heart, eyes, elbows and hips before they were bred.  XO will be obtaining her testing also before she is bred.

Temperament is very important to us in and therefore all of our puppies are evaluated by Trudy Taphorn (Trudy trained under Pat Hastings for puppy evaluations of both temperament and structure). Our puppies are NOT sold on a 'first come, first serve basis'. We only adopt to people who remain in contact with us during the 'waiting periods' as we currently breed about every two years (usually longer). After our puppies are evaluated by Trudy, they are placed in appropriate approved homes. Since we do not have a waiting list parse, please try to arrange a visit and/or contact us via e-mail (and keep in contact) so we can get to know one another. Please be advised that we do not ship so if you are interested in an Alberta Roots Swissy, you would be required to come here to meet us and our dogs.

All our puppies will be born from parents with a passing OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) rating. The parents will have OFA clearances on their hips and elbows. In addition, both parents will have NORMAL for a CERF rating. We are very concerned about the health of the breed and will be breeding with the utmost care to provide you with a dog you can enjoy for many years. Please visit http://www.offa.org/search.html for the health test results.

We feel it is very important to have well socialized dogs with friendly temperaments. Temperament of our dogs is VERY important to us and we will keep the good natured temperament in our lines by only breeding to well-tempered dogs. All of our adult Swissy's have passed Their Canine Good Citizen test (CGC) and Hannah has been trained for canine therapy work.

The breed standard is also important to us and we will be breeding with a great deal of care to preserve the traits Swissies were originally bred for. This includes herding, carting and being a wonderful family companion.

Thank you for reading about our future endeavors and please do e-mail us if you have any questions. Information regarding our future breeding can be found at the top of our FAQ page or via e-mail.  Please also visit our resources area for our FAQ and links pages as we have tried to put together very informative information on GSMD's for you.
