If you are new to our site, first of all Welcome! We would appreciate if you would read our FAQ and Questions to Ask Breeders before e-mailing us as chances are it will answer at least one of your questions. Thank you in advance! Sera
*** PLEASE NOTE: We have just had a baby and between him and all of our summer dog shows, we may take longer than normal to get back to you. We will return all e-mails within 10 days (usually sooner) however if you do not get a response after 10 days, please e-mail us again as it is very likely your e-mail was lost in internet land. We return ALL e-mails.
We are located in Sherwood Park, Alberta (just outside of Edmonton). We currently are owned by Copeley's Alberta Roots HIC, CGC, DD (Hannah), Can / Am CH. Alberta Roots Amazing Grace (Gracie) and Alberta Roots Blessed nda West (Wyatt). Hannah passed health clearances on her shoulders, patella's, thyroid, heart, eyes, elbows and hips before she was bred. She is now spayed and daughter Gracie is filling in for Hannah and has had testing on her heart, thyroid, eyes, hips, shoulders and elbows which are all healthy. Wyatt is just a pup however he will obtain all of his health tests once he is two years old as well.
Temperament is very important to us in and therefore all of our puppies are evaluated by Trudy Taphorn (Trudy trained under Pat Hastings for puppy evaluations of both temperament and structure). Our puppies are NOT sold on a 'first come, first serve basis'. We only adopt to people who remain in contact with us during the 'waiting periods' as we currently breed about every two years (usually longer). After our puppies are evaluated by Trudy, they are placed in appropriate approved homes. Since we do not have a waiting list parse, please try to arrange a visit and/or contact us via e-mail (and keep in contact) so we can get to know one another.
Please be advised that we do not ship so if you are interested in an Alberta Roots Swissy, you would be required to come here to meet us and our dogs.
All our puppies will be born from parents with a passing OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) rating. The parents will have OFA clearances on their hips and elbows. In addition, both parents will have NORMAL for a CERF rating. We are very concerned about the health of the breed and will be breeding with the utmost care to provide you with a dog you can enjoy for many years. Please visit http://www.offa.org/search.html for the health test results.
Gracie and Wyatt will be shown around Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C., Canada (as well as very limited in the USA.) so check our upcoming shows to see if we will be in your area. Hannah is now 'retired' from showing as she is spayed however we are working on other titles with her.
We feel it is very important to have well socialized dogs with friendly temperaments. Temperament of our dogs is VERY important to us and we will keep the good natured temperament in our lines by only breeding to well-tempered dogs. Hannah passed her Canine Good Citizen test (CGC) and is approved for canine therapy work.
The breed standard is also important to us and we will be breeding with a great deal of care to preserve the traits the Swissy was originally bred for. This includes herding, carting and being a wonderful family companion.
