When I decided that I wanted to bring a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog into our family, I did a lot of research. After many weeks I was certain that I wanted a puppy from Alberta Roots even if it meant traveling a great distance (I live in Virginia) and even though there were no puppies expected I was more than willing to wait. There are a number of reasons that I would recommend Alberta Roots, but most importantly the Fradgley family breeds Swissies because they love them. The health and temperament of each and every dog that they breed is of the outmost importance. They have an interest in bettering the breed, which can be seen by their ongoing success in both the AKC and CKC. The puppies are raised in their home, they do not mass breed, each puppy is a precious baby to them and they place them very carefully. I have been blessed with "Tiko" who is a special member of our family; I cannot imagine my life without her. Sincerely, Caroline McNeely Dear Swissily Interested;
A few years ago my husband and I began researching for a new puppy to share our lives with. With so many breeds out there, as many people looking for a dog have discovered, this is no small or easy task. We had a dog previously so there were some specific characteristics we were definitely looking for in our new canine companion. Our search led us to The Greater Swiss Mountain dog, and therefore to Alberta Roots.
Alberta Roots website was very informative. As the Swissys are a more recently recognized breed there is not as much information about them as there is for other breeds. After reading Alberta Roots website FAQs and exploring the website we felt comfortable pursuing more information from Alberta Roots regarding the breed specifically. We were very pleased that all of the puppies are monitored for health as well as temperament, and that the history of the breeding line was accessible for any interested parties. We decided to email Alberta Roots with our remaining questions regarding the breed.
Alberta Roots responded very quickly to our email. They answered all of our questions and provided us with other sources for information regarding the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. My husband and I made the decision that this was the breed for us, and these were the breeders we wanted to adopt from. We continued to communicate with Alberta Roots for a period of time and sent in our application for a puppy. We felt very comfortable with Alberta Roots because they are responsible breeders. They do not breed puppies for a quick profit, but do so in order to continue the integrity of the breed and only when they feel they can responsibly care for a littler of puppies in their home until the time of adoption. Alberta Roots asked us many questions about our training practices and desires for having a Swissy. Because they asked us many questions, we felt confident that we would be getting a puppy that would match our lifestyle, would be healthy and would have a balanced temperament. We knew they cared for their puppies, and Greater Swiss Mountain Dog breed, because they were making sure their dogs were going to the best possible homes.
Since we have began sharing our life with our Swissy, Alberta Roots continues to be in communication with us regarding the growth and development of our puppy, the activities we are involved in and training we have done. Alberta Roots created a group email account were we could contact owners of our dog’s littermates and share concerns with training or successes and celebrations. We also feel confident in knowing that at any time we have a question our breeders are only a phone call away. Because Alberta Roots is so ethical in their breeding of Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, we have an amazing canine companion.
